Middle School Experience

Posted by: | June 24, 2009 | No Comment |

My best year in middle school was sixth grade hands down. I had the best teachers, the best grades, and the best friends you could have. My favorite teacher was Mr. Filipek who is about 42 million years old. He really understood his students an really respected them. Most teachers talk down to you but Fil (nickname) really got down to our level. He inspired me to do the best i could and I did. Also in sixth grade I had a pregnant teacher named Mrs. Smolley. Her chair broke and she fell and I remember running to her side to help her. That was a scary moment but also funny moment in my middle school career.

The USA should be more democratic. We want to have the people vote and for the people to have a say. If we give the government more say in things then it becomes socialism. Take a look at the mess we are in now. This will continue to get worse if we do not allow the people to have more say in political decisions. Everybody has an equal right to vote and that is what a democracy is and that is what we need more of in this country.

Electoral College

America is called the “Land of Opportunity”. Every single person in America had the opportunity to be something else. Whether they took that opportuity or not is what we judge on. In class we talked about a professor and a hobo. Should a hobo have an equal opinion on a subject that a professor teaches? No. But at one point in that hobo’s life he had a chance to be that professor so that is my take on the electoral college.

Trail of Tears Part 2

Posted by: | April 3, 2009 | No Comment |

This is the second part of the Trail of Tears…If you have not yet read the first part click here

Trudging through the snow, hungry, waiting. We have not eaten, we have not slept, all we have is each other. He whispers to me softly in my ear on our journey. I can not understand his words but i understand what he is saying. His voice is comforting in this oh so tragic time. It will be very worth it at the end. You see we are on a journey to a western land. It has not always been like this though. I remember when everyone was happy and living a good life…but then something happened. We were raided by pioneers and we were forced to move to another land. As we walked we made a name for our path, we called it the “Trail of Tears”. About every 2-3 days someone would die. Whether it be from starvation, dehydration, or even exhaustion. I could always tell when this happened when I felt a tug on my bridle and then when I heard the weeping of others. When we reached what was to be our new home we found that over 4,000 of us had perished. It was a very sad but also a very happy time for us all. Yes we had lost loved ones but we also completed our mission in finding a new land.

Should you define a person on their action or their intentions?

People know that judging another person is not good but everybody does it. When someone takes action in something people look at what they did and evaluate them on that. What people don’t see is other people’s intentions. There is a story on this site-http://dmcordell.blogspot.com/-that tells about a newspaper publisher not delivering papers because of an objectionable picture. I judge people on their intentions and, in this case, i am siding with the publisher of the paper. He decided to keep this paper out of classrooms, k-12, because he didnt want his company to be known as insensative.

That is my take on this story…leave me a comment and tell me yours. :)

Friends

Posted by: | January 15, 2009 | 3 Comments |

Friends are something that you have to choose carefully. Sometimes you don’t have to choose at all, sometimes they can just find you. A friend needs to be honest, trustworthy and that is about it. Surprisingly a lot of people aren’t even one of those things.
